Conservation Organizations

Diamondback Terrapin Working Group
This working group of biologists, conservationists, and agency employees is dedicated to the rangewide conservation of the diamondback terrapin and its associated coastal ecosystems.

Florida Turtle Conservation Trust
"Working to conserve Florida's rich turtle diversity."  This NGO focuses its efforts on the conservation of non-marine species.

Gopher Tortoise Council
“Working to conserve the gopher tortoise and the fascinating world in which it lives."  This NGO is at the forefront of upland habitat conservation.

League of Environmental Educators in Florida (LEEF)
LEEF is a non-profit organization established in 1981 to promote environmental education in Florida and has, more recently, been involved in working on Florida's Environmental Literacy Plan.  The organization serves as a resource for professional development, grants, professional networking, field trips, workshops, and conferences.

Tampa Bay Estuary Program
The mission of the Tampa Bay Estuary Program is to build partnerships to restore and protect Tampa Bay through implementation of a scientifically sound, community-based management plan.

Turtle Conservancy
"Promoting the wonder of turtles."  The Turtle Conservancy is dedicated to protecting threatened turtles and tortoises and their habitats worldwide, and to promoting their appreciation by people everywhere.

Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA)
The Turtle Survival Alliance was organized in 2001 in response to the Asian Turtle Crisis.  It has since become a recognized force in tortoise and freshwater turtle conservation globally.  With programs or projects in Belize, Colombia, Madagascar, Senegal, and throughout Asia, TSA is expanding its global outreach and impact and remains committed to zero turtle extinctions.

Homeschool Co-ops

Love of Learning Families
This group meets on Thursdays at Girls Inc. in Pinellas Park, Florida.  Spring and fall semesters each include 12 weekly sessions.

Tampa Homeschoolers Instructing and Nurturing Kids (THINK)
This group meets on Mondays at a location in northwestern Hillsborough County, Florida, just a few miles east of Brooker Creek Preserve.  Spring and fall semesters each include 12 weekly sessions.

Boyd Hill Nature Preserve
Located in an urban setting, this ecologically diverse natural area is the jewel in St. Petersburg’s park system.

Brooker Creek Preserve
Known as "our wildest place," Brooker Creek Preserve is an 8,500 acre wilderness area located in the northeastern corner of Pinellas County.  The Environmental Education Center features a number of discovery-oriented experiences revolving around natural Florida and local history.

Weedon Island Preserve
Weedon Island Preserve is an expansive 3,000 acre preserve that extends along the west side of Tampa Bay.  It is the largest estuarine preserve in Pinellas County and is comprised of a wide range of aquatic habitats and upland communities.
